INTO INSANITY
(A VETERAN'S PLIGHT)

Into Insanity: Text

Slender fingers
Hand in mine
White-clad figure
Eyes that shine

Her scent lingers
In my mind
Lovely promises
Withstand time

Come struck thunder;
Blatant lies
Bloody Officers;
Convenient lives

Ripped asunder
Bruising skies
A world of ours
Stained with cries

Upon the piers
Red took flight
Lovers, widowers
Shed tears alike

Oh, war is wretched
We, too, vile
For us soldiers
Stole many a smile

As would a river
Run its miles
Unclear whether
It shall dry

So our hearts hurt
A sure guide;
A compass dear
To our wives

Deft hands waver
Try as I might
Cast a look over
Black of night

Silent slivers
Slid from my eyes
Hoping ravens
Hear my plight

Please deliver
Despite strife
Souls to each owner
Knowing no Scythe

Here, I write letters
As the cold bites
Script gentler
Than those in sight

Dear Receiver
You may find
My thoughts no saner
Than a loopy line

Rightly, I fear
I would die
With shadows that leer
Unable to opine

But wait, this deer
I hunt in mind
To which I must veer
To realign...

Hah, yes, Dear Reader
I apologise
You must remember
This vague rhyme

To any dreamer
Vision aside
It is a lemon
In which we reside

And ever stubborn
Its peeled skeins
Curl and meander
As does time
